Guys, I tried listening to this episode, but you keep referring to "Republicans." There was no Republican party until much later. There's a reason why the Republicans are known as the party of Lincoln. There WERE Democratic-Republicans, the forerunners of the modern Democratic party. And they were the opponents of the Federalists, the forerunners (in a way) of the modern Republican party. But there were no Republicans in 1811-1812.
@ShattererOfWords Absolutely right! There weren't "Republicans" in the same sense as there are today. However, The Democratic-Republicans where referred to as Jeffersonian Republicans and Republicans pretty interchangeably. Even Henry Adam's famous History of the US uses the terms interchangeably and so in the second episode we did the same. Now we probably should have said at the beginning of the episode clarifying that we were referring to the Democratic-Republicans when we used "Republicans." We said that in the Episode 1 and didn't think about putting in another caveat.
(However if you're planning on going back and listening to Episode 1, wait. We're going to rerecord it, because the sound quality is terrible.)
Thanks for the feedback! Hope that it didn't turn you off to the podcast completely.
